DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z January 26, 2008

Florida:
Two fires, one in Baker and the other in Wakulla County, in the northern
part of the state, were producing light smoke plumes extending 25 miles.
The smoke plumes were generally moving towards the southwest.

Hawaii:
A light smoke plume from Kilauea was observed moving towards the west
extending out 50 miles.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
