DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2300Z January 27, 2008

Oklahoma:
A dangerous rapidly moving grassland fire has rapidly expanded from
around Clear Lake/Slapout OK in Beaver almost to Gate, OK. Smoke is
difficult to see through cirrus but because of the coverage of the fire,
a plume of moderate low level smoke can be seen moving NE and then East
across NE Beaver and N Harper county.

Maryland:
A small fire north of the Nanticoke River (south of Henry's Crossroads)
in SE Dorchester county is producing thin smoke that is moving SE across
Pocomoke Sound, Accomack county into the Atlantic Ocean. The plume was
about 5km wide.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
