DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z February 2, 2008

Florida Panhandle:
A light smoke in Franklin County is moving to the southeast over the
Gulf of Mexico.

South Texas:
Numerous fires in Hidalgo, Refugio, and Victoria Counties have light
smoke plumes extending towards the northwest.

Oklahoma:
A light to moderate smoke plume over Comanche County is moving north
and extending out 75 miles from the source.

Louisiana:
A light smoke plume over Vermilion County is moving towards the south
and west over the Gulf of Mexico.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
