DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z February 3, 2008

Florida Panhandle:
A fire on the border of Franklin, Jackson and Liberty counties is
emitting a moderately dense plume of smoke north into most of Liberty
and eastern sections of Calhoun county.  The plume extends 25-30 km into
Liberty county.

Southern Florida:
Multiple fires burning in Martin and Palm Beach counties are producing
a light plume of smoke north to northwest across Lake Okeechobee.

Eastern Texas:
A fire in San Jacinto county is emitting a moderately dense plume of
smoke NNE into Polk and Trinity counties.

Several fires are emitting narrow light plumes of smoke across the
southern US.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
