DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z February 8, 2008

Texas:
In Angelina and Houston Counties, two separate fires are producing
moderate smoke plumes extending east 50 miles. Along the Gulf Coast,
around the Corpus Christi vicinity, several smaller fires are producing
light smoke plumes, and they are moving out over the Gulf of Mexico.

Louisiana:
Two light smoke plumes in the southern part of the state are moving
towards the northeast.

Mississippi:
Two light smoke plumes are moving towards the east.

Florida Panhandle/Southern Alabama:
Several fires are producing light smoke plumes; these smoke plumes are
moving east.

North Carolina:
Two fires along the coastline are producing light smoke plumes, moving
east. In the south-central part of the state, three fires are producing
light smoke plumes moving east as well.

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
