DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0315Z February 11, 2008

Northern Florida:
A heavy smoke plume in southeast Lafayette County is moving southeasterly
into northeastern Dixie County. The smoke plume appears to become moderate
in density as it moves further east into Gilchrist County and northern
Levy County. Additionally, the smoke plume itself extends many miles
and ends in Hernando County.

South Carolina:
Four light smoke plumes along the northern coastline of the state(Myrtle
Beach vicinity) are moving east over the Atlantic Ocean.

Virginia:
Numerous fires, which popped up earlier in the day and spread due to
strong winds behind the arctic front, are producing light smoke plumes
in the central part of the state. These smoke plumes are moving east.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
