DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z February 15, 2008

Florida, Alabama and Mississippi:
A string of fires from Okaloosa County, Florida, to Conecuh and Escambia
counties, Alabama, produced a light pall of smoke that stretched from
north to south between these fires.

Moderate smoke stretched for 90 km to the northeast of fires in Calhoun
and Early counties in Mississippi.

Southern California:
Dust was blowing offshore of extreme southern California.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
