THROUGH 0115Z February 29, 2008

Florida Panhandle:

Light smoke plumes extended over 100 km into the Gulf of Mexico from
fires in Franklin, Calhoun, and Wakulla counties.

Southeast Mississippi:

Moderately dense smoke plumes extended 60-75 km to the north northeast
of blazes in George, Stone and Wayne counties.

South Carolina:

Fires in Edgefield and Barnwell generated moderately dense smoke plumes
that extended 65 km to the southeast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
