DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z March 5, 2008

Texas:
In general, there were numerous light smoke plumes along the coastline
of the state, however, only two smoke plumes in particular were producing
moderate smoke plumes.

In Kleberg County, a moderate smoke plume was seen moving southeast,
extending over the Gulf of Mexico 75 miles from the source. In addition,
a small, moderate smoke plume was observed moving east, extending 10
miles from the source, and staying within the boundaries of the county.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
