DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z March 22, 2008

Alabama:
A fire along the intersection of Cleburne, Clay and Talladega counties is
producing thin to moderate smoke that has been wavering between moving
SE and SSE so there is a double S-curve to the appearence as it covers
E Clay, S Randolph and Chambers county in AL and Harris county GA.
The length is about 140km with an average width of 25km.
A fire in southcentral Winston county is producing thin smoke that
extends SSE to western Chilton county with a average width of 17km.

Mississippi:
A fire in NW Chickasaw county produced a puff of moderately dense smoke
for about 2hrs which proceeded to move SSE across W MS.  The pocket of
smoke currently is about 25km wide(E-W) and 77km long(N-S) over S Nouxbee,
Kemper and E Lauderdale counties.
A fire along the central Kemper/Lauderdale county line is producing a
plume of thin to moderate smoke that was moving SSE but has begun to fan
out at the southern end moving S to SE covering N Washington and Choctaw
counties in AL, and ext E Lauderdale, Clarke and NE Wayne counties in MS.
A fire along the far southern portion of the Scott/Newton county line
produced a puff of moderate to dense smoke that that is expanding over
Lamar, Forrest and SW Jones county.
A fire is far SW Wayne county is producing thin to moderate smoke that is
fanning out from S to SSW along the Greene and Perry line with most smoke
covering E Perry. Smoke extends as far south as the Jackson county line.
A fire SE of the River in S Franklin county has been producing moderate to
dense smoke throughout the day with a very strong burst of smoke around
1945Z today.  The first puff in the lower levels moved south but has
turned toward the SW.  Currently the smoke extends more than 200km from
the source to the northern portions of the Vermillion Bay in LA. The plume
is about 85km wide covering many parishes of central LA. A second fire
started aroun 2130Z in central Amite county has added to the smoke plume.

Arkansas:
A line fire (18km long E-W) in SE Polk county along with fires in SC
Scott, SE Scott, ext. N Montgomery and ext. SW Yell county have produced
moderately dense to very dense smoke that has combined into a very
large area of smoke that covers much of SW AR, though it is becoming
difficult to see with mid to high level clouds moving in. Still the
smoke covers nearly all of Little River, Sevier, Howard, SW and SE Polk,
and Montgomery counties.

Texas:
A fire along NE of the lake along the Walker and Montgomery county line
has produced thin to moderate smoke that has moved SW to N Austin county,
covering E Washington county to N Waller and S Grimes counties.

Arizona:
A fire in Maricopa county just NW of the NW tip of Pinal county has is
producing a thin plume of smoke that is 13km wide and extends due south
within Maricopa county about 50km.

Montana:
A fire in Teton county near Fairfield is producing a thin puff of smoke
that extends E to ENE about 30km to I-15.
