DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z JUNE 4, 2008

Northern Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba:
A thin ribbon of haze arcs through the northern regions of Alberta,
Saskatchewan and Manitoba. There are several fires in Alberta that are
contributing to the haze but some also appears to be coming from the
Northern Territories and could be from fires in Russia.

North Carolina:
A large fire which appears to cross the Hyde and Washington county line
is producing light to moderately dense smoke which extends over 200km
to the northeast over the Albemarle Sound and into the Atlantic.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
