DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1402Z JUNE 10, 2008

North Carolina:
Heavy to moderate smoke from the Evans Road fire extended at least 700
miles out into the Atlantic Ocean.  Residue smoke continues to cover
much of the coastal and offshore region from the Delaware Bay to the
Carolina coastal plain.

Saskatchewan:
Moderate to heavy smoke plumes from the fires in the northern portion
of the province were moving towards the northwest and thinner smoke is
drifting into northern Manitoba.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
