--Revision to add Alaskan smoke--

North Carolina/Virginia/Atlantic:
The Evans Road and South 1 fires in eastern North Carolina and the
Great Dysmal Swamp have obscured by clouds through most of the day

still being emitted. An area of light smoke from these fires can be
seen off the coast of the northeast extending from southern Virgina
to Massachusetts.

New Mexico:
Earlier, light to moderately dense smoke from the Rocky fire located
in eastern Otero county could be seen but is now obscured by clouds.
Moderatelty dense smoke from the Bonney fire in southeastern Lincoln
county could also be seen earlier but is now obscured.

Nevada:
Light smoke from the Elkhorn 2 fire in northcentral Nye county could be
seen mixed in with the clouds moving through the area.

California:
Several small fires near the coast in Mendocino county are generating
moderatelty dense to dense smoke which is traveling to the south crossing
into Lake and Sonoma counties. Trinity county also has several fires
which are generating light to moderatelty dense smoke which is traveling
to the north into Siskiyou county. In western Siskiyou county a fire
is generating moderatelty dense smoke which is traveling northeast into
Klamath county, Oregon. In northwestern San Diego county a fire in
emanating moderatelty dense to dense smoke which extends over 150km to
the southeast approaching the Salton Sea. The Clover fire in eastern
Tulare county has a plume of moderatelty dense to dense smoke extending

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
