THROUGH 0215Z JULY 4, 2008
UPDATED... North Carolina/Virginia: The South 1 wildfire along the NC/VA border continues to produce moderately dense to dense smoke, moving northeast, with smoke extending out all the way to the Massachusett's coastline. The Evans Road wildfire is producing a moderately dense to dense smoke plume as well, and is moving off to the north and northeast over the Outer Banks. Lighter smoke from both of these fires extend well offshore over the Atlantic Ocean. Louisiana: Earlier this afteroon, a narrow, moderately dense smoke plume on Marsh Island was heading off to the north and extended into the central part of the state. California/Western US: A fanning plume of heavy smoke was generally moving south along the coast from the fire near Big Sur to Point Conception. Another fire near Santa Barbara also had smoke moving south over the Channel Islands where it combined with the Big Sur smoke, which continues south to the Baja of California. Light to moderate smoke from numerous fires in northern California continues to trap smoke in the San Joaquin Valley. In addition, light smoke can be seen spreading north and east into most of Nevada, Oregon, southern Washington State, southern Idaho, and northern Utah. Arizona: In Yavapai County, a moderately dense smoke plume is fanning out over the southern part of the county into northern Maricopa County. As the smoke continues to move out from the source, it becomes much lighter before it dissipates over the southwestern part of the state. Northern US/Canada: In northern Saskatchewan, between 55N and 58N, moderately dense smoke from numerous fires are moving in an east-southeast direction. Smoke earlier this afternoon was observed moving east and southeast into Manitoba and also into west central Ontario, however, clouds later this evening has obscurred any additional smoke from being seen. In addition, light smoke from the Saskatchewan fires has moved into the northern plains; particularly in the Dakotas, Montana, Nebraska, eastern Wyoming, and northeast Colorado. RCE
