DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 01445Z JULY 20, 2008

SO2 from Okmok Volcano:
A moderately dense plume of SO2 is currently straddling the US/Canada
border, and is especially noticeable in eastern Montana, southern
Saskatchewan, and North Dakota.

Northern California/Oregon/Washington:
Light to moderately dense smoke from fires in California is drifting
northward up the Pacific coastline into southwestern Oregon, and stretches
into southeastern Washington. The smoke then becomes mixed with SO2 in
Montana as the SO2 advances east.

Northwest Territories/Saskatchewan/Manitoba:
A large area of light smoke is advancing northward out of northeast
Saskatchewan and northern Manitoba into the central portion of the
Northwest Territories.

Arkansas:
Along the border of Nevada and Hempstead Counties, a moderately dense
smoke plume is currently moving off to the northeast.
