DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z AUGUST 11, 2008
California Fires: Light to moderately dense smoke, including some dense smoke pockets, in northern California is drifting to the south through Siskiyou, Humboldt, Trinity, Shasta, Tehama counties. Residual light to moderately dense smoke from last evening's fires is currently advancing to the northeast through Siskiyou, Shasta, Trinity, and Modoc counties in northern California, and also extends into southeastern Oregon and western Idaho. Arizona: In Maricopa County, just to the southwest of Phoenix, a fire is producing a dense smoke plume. The smoke is racing off to the east, and currently extends 40km from the source. Minnesota: Across the Minnesota/Canada border, in Roseau County, two light smoke plumes are moving off to the north and extends into the southern region of Manitoba. Oregon: A fire in Sherman County, in the north-central region of the state, produced a light smoke earlier this evening. The plume moved off to the east. Canada: Numerous fires popped up earlier this afternoon between the Great Slave Lake and Lake Athabasca producing moderately dense to dense smoke plumes. Most of these plumes are moving off to the northwest, and are situated just north of Lake Athabasca. However due to clouds, it is difficult to pinpoint where the smoke is as of 0200Z. Residual light smoke also exists from last evening's fires in the same area as well, from the Great Slave Lake eastward to Hudson Bay. In addition, residual light smoke is found in the northern regions of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. RCE
