THROUGH 1600Z AUGUST 19, 2008

Central US/Canada
An area of remnant smoke from the fires throughout the Northern Rockies
mixed in with SO2 is stretching from central Alberta through northern
Montana to the Texas/Oklahoma panhandle.

Manitoba/Ontario:
Moderately dense smoke from the fires near Great Slave Lake and Lake
Athabasca is moving southwest along the border of the Hudson Bay.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
