DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z AUGUST 22, 2008

Idaho/Nevada/Utah/Wyoming:
A wildfire in northeast Elmore county Idaho (Sawtooth National Forest)
is producing a large plume of moderately dense to dense smoke moving east
across northern sections of southern Idaho and into southwest Montana.
A wildfire in northern Elko county Nevada (Humboldt National Forest)
is emitting a large area of dense to very dense smoke moving east NE
across parts of northwest Utah, southeast Idaho and western Wyoming.
A fire in White Pine county Nevada is emitting a light plume of smoke
moving northeast into Elko county.
In Box Elder county Utah a wildfire is producing a light plume of smoke
southwest across the county.
In Park county Wyoming a wildfire is producing a moderately dense to
dense plume of smoke moving northeast into south central Montana.

Northwest Territories/Northwest Canada:
Numerous wildfires burning around Great Slave Lake are producing
moderately dense to dense smoke moving west to northwest in direction.

Virginia:
Fires in Caroline and Essex counties are producing light to moderately
dense smoke west into Spotsylvania, Orange and Culpeper counties.
Fires in Greenville and Sussex counties in southern Virginia produced
light smoke moving west SW into Brunswick counties.

Tennessee:
A fire in Cocke county is emitting light smoke moving northwest into
Jefferson and Hamblen counties.

Arizona:
Two fires in Coconino county (Kaibab National Forest) are emitting light
smoke moving northeast across the county.

Northern California:
A fire in southeast Trinity county is emitting light to moderately dense
smoke moving east into Butte and Tehama counties.  Another fire on the
border of Colusa and Sutter counties are emitting light smoke moving
northwest, but staying within county borders.

Oregon:
Multiple fires burning in Jefferson county (Deschutes National Forest)
are producing light to moderately dense smoke moving southeast into
Deschutes and Crook counties.

From earlier today:

Northern Plains/Canada/Great Lakes:
Remnant dense smoke from wildfires burning in Idaho, Nevada and Utah is
exiting sections of Wyoming and entering North/South Dakota and Nebraska
while a smaller area of dense smoke entered Wyoming from Idaho. A large
area of moderately dense smoke covered portions of the Dakotas, Iowa,
Wisconsin, Minnesota and extended north into western Manitoba, Ontario
and western/central section of Quebec.
