DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z AUGUST 23, 2008

Area of light smoke remains mixed in with weather clouds over the Great
Lakes and southern Ontario region.  Light area of remnant smoke remains
over South Dakota and into central Montana.  Light remnant smoke remains
over central Idaho and southwest Montana with dense smoke still emanating
from fires in Elmore, Boise, and Custer counties in central Idaho.
Area of light smoke moving eastward covering much of southern Manitoba
and Saskatchewan territories in Canada.

Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
