DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z SEPTEMBER 6, 2008

Oregon:
The Lonesome Complex is generating heavy dense smoke that extended 60 km
to the south while a fire in Harney County generated light to moderate
smoke that reached 235 km to the southeast.

Northern California:
Heavy dense smoke extended 110 km southwest of the Siskiyou/Blue 2
Complex and the Panther fires. Light smoke extended even farther over
the Pacific.

Southern California:
Light to moderate smoke extended 210 km west of a blaze in Fresno county.

Southern Utah:
Light smoke stretched up to 80 km east southeast of two separate fires
in Garfield County and along the Iron and Kane county borders.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
