DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1430Z SEPTEMBER 6, 2008

Oregon:
The Lonesome Complex and Rattle Fire are generating moderately dense
smoke that extends 250km to the west out over the Pacific.

California:
Moderately dense to light smoke extends over 150 km southwest of the
Siskiyou/Blue 2 Complex and the Panther Fire where it merges with the
smoke from the fires in Oregon. The Tehipite Fire in eastern Fresno
County is emitting light to moderately dense smoke which is traveling
to the west entering into Madera County.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
