DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z SEPTEMBER 13, 2008

Southern Oregon:
In Douglas, Jackson, and Klamath Counties, two moderately dense smoke
plumes are advancing to the southeast. The plume in Douglas County
extends out 50km while the plume along the borders of Jackson and Klamath
counties extends out 150km from the source. Also, in Harney County,
a dense smoke plume is racing to the southeast into Malheur County,
extreme southwest Idaho, and extreme north-central Nevada. The plume
extends out at least 200km and is 40km wide.

California:
In Del Norte, Siskiyou, Trininty, and Humboldt Counties, moderately dense
to dense smoke plumes are drifting in variable directions. In Fresno and
Madera Counties, two moderately dense to dense smoke plumes are moving
to the south and both plumes extend out roughly 60km from their sources.

Idaho:
In Blaine County, a moderately dense smoke plume is racing to the
southeast and extends out 170km into the southeastern region of the state.

Utah:
In Kane County, in the southern region of the state, a light smoke
plume is moving south into extreme northern Arizona and extends 75km
from the source.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
