DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z SEPTEMBER 15, 2008

Utah:
In the northern portion of Kane County a fire is emitting moderately
dense to dense smoke which is moving to the southeast where it enters
into north central Coconino County Arizona. Another fire which is in
eastern Iron County is emanating light to moderately dense smoke which
is moving to the west.

California:
The fire in eastern Fresno County as well as the fire in northern
Kings County continue to generate moderately dense to dense smoke which
is streaming out to the northwest. The smoke from the Fresno County
fire stretches over 200km affecting counties as far north and west as
Joaquin County. In northern California, the Deerhorn Fire and Klamath
Complex are still producing light to moderately dense smoke. This smoke
is fanning out to the north and traveling well into Oregon.

Oregon:
The Lonesome Complex and the Rattle Fire are still active in Jackson
and Douglas counties. The are emanating light to moderately dense smoke
which is traveling to the north. Light smoke from these fires and those
in California is approaching the Washington State border.

Idaho:
There are a few small fires throughout Idaho which are creating small
areas of light smoke centralized around the fires.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
