DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0115Z OCTOBER 8, 2008

Southeast Ontario:
Light smoke extended 150 km to the north northeast of 4 blazes in
southeast Ontario.

Central Plains:
Several fires in western Kansas and the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma
have resulted in light smoke that extended up to 100 km to the east.

Colorado:
Light smoke stretched 120 km to the southeast of a fire in Chaffee County.

South Dakota:
A blaze in Pennington County generated a light smoke smoke plume that
extended 165 km to the east.






 


Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
