DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z OCTOBER 10, 2008

Texas/Louisiana/Arkansas:
There are several agricultural fires on the eastern border of Texas,
throughout Louisiana and southeastern Arkansas.  These fires are emitting
light smoke which is generally moving south and west.

Arizona:
In central Yavapai County a fire is generating a smoke plume which extends
over 100km to the northeast.  A fire in central Gila county is producing
light smoke which is also moving the northeast and extends over 150km
approaching the New Mexico border.

California:
In southern California there is a haze of unknown composition moving to
the south.  This area begins as far north as Sonoma County and continues
south reaching the northern border of Los Angeles County.  A fire in
Colusa County is emanating light smoke which is streaking off to the
south extending well over 100km.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
