DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z NOVEMBER 23, 2008

Louisiana:
Light smoke can be seen moving northward from areas around the Mississippi
delta.

Texas:
In central Floyd County, a fire is generating light smoke which is
moving northeast.

Arizona:
In the southern portion of Apache County, light to moderately dense
smoke can be seen moving to the northeast entering into New Mexico.

California:
The Sayre Fire in San Luis Obispo County is emitting light to moderately
dense smoke which is fanning out to the south and east.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
