DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z DECEMBER 2, 2008

Texas:
Mainly thin smoke plumes were visible extending to the southeast and out
over the Gulf of Mexico from several fires scattered along the coastal
counties of southeastern Texas.

Arizona:
Fires in southern Navajo and southern Apache counties in east central
Arizona produced primarily thin smoke plumes which moved generally in
a southerly direction.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
