DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z DECEMBER 3, 2008

Eastern Texas/Louisiana:
At least a dozen fires with smoke plumes visible in satellite imagery
were analyzed over eastern Texas and across the southern half of
Louisiana. Most of the smoke plumes were of relatively thin density and
spread to the north during the afternoon.

California:
Thin to moderately dense smoke plumes were visible moving to the south
from fires in northeastern Trinity, south central Plumas, and southeastern
Sierra counties of northern California.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
