DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z DECEMBER 7, 2008

Louisiana:
Several small plumes of smoke can be seen around the Mississippi Delta
in Louisiana.  The plumes consist of light smoke which is moving to
the southeast.

Arizona:
In south central Yavapai County light smoke can be seen flaring out to
the southeast extending into Maricopa county.

Oregon:
In southwest Oregon several plume of light smoke extend northeast of
their origins.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
