DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z JANUARY 5, 2009

Florida/Georgia:
Remnant smoke from the numerous fires this morning in western Palm
Beach county had crossed Lake Okeechobee and moved into eastern Glades
county. A fire in western Dixie county had a narrow plume of thin smoke
that extended north into southern Lafayette. A pair of fires in northern
Columbia county had narrow plumes of thin to moderately dense smoke that
extended to the northeast stretching into southern Ware and Charlton
counties in southeast Georgia.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
