DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z MARCH 18,2009
The large area of thin smoke from yesterday's burning across E KS/MO and E OK can not be detected downstream of where it was seen earlier this morning in MO/IL/IN even with low sun angles. Still a large number of agricultural burns are going on today across C/E OK...SE KS...MO and N AR. The smoke is thin to moderately dense across E OK but still attached to the source fires. Smoke in the E Ozarks of MO and N AR are much more dense and fan shaped due to reaching higher altitudes...yet are also attached to their source fires. S California: Pollutants and mixed smoke is moving due E out of the Los Angeles area. Otherwise, all other areas of smoke can be seen through the graphical depictions on the web site below.
