DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

Ohio Valley/Great Lakes/Mississippi Valley An area of thin smoke was seen around sunset stretching from the Mid Mississippi Valley/Western Ohio Valley stretching northeast towards the western Great Lakes region. Further east, another area of thin smoke was seen over Ohio and stretching northeast towards Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. California/Southwest US/Northern Mexico: The Lockheed and La Brea fires were continuing to produce an extensive area of moderately dense smoke that encompassed an area from the San Joaquin Valley and coastal counties south of the Lockheed fire through most of southern California. The plume then extended east to cover a large section of Arizona and northern Mexico and was then lifting northeast through most of Utah/eastern Nevada and into southwest Wyoming. Closer to the point sources, areas of very dense smoke were analyzed particularly near the La Brea fire.
