DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0115Z October 2, 2009
Western Kansas: A small patch of aerosol was seen moving southeast across western Kansas. The type and source of aerosol is uncertain but may be blowing dust due to gusty winds over the region in the late afternoon. Southwest Gulf of Mexico: A broad area of smoke from the oil platforms in the southern Bay of Campeche was seen moving to the west northwest and covering much of the southwest portion of the Gulf. Active smoke plumes were seen from fires over the Southeast US, west Texas near Plainview, Arizona and northern Baja. Details can be seen at the links below.
