THROUGH 0245Z May 6, 2010
Gulf of Mexico/Southeast: A large area of light to isolated moderate smoke from fires in Mexico covers much of the Bay of Campeche and central and eastern Gulf of Mexico. The smoke stretches northeastward and covers portions of northern Florida and also portions of Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. The area in the eastern Gulf may also be mixed with remnant dust that likely originated from the Sahara. California/Great Basin States: A large area of blowing dust, that appeared to originate from numerous dry lake beds over northeastern California and western Nevada, was observed from northeastern California stretching southeast towards east central Nevada. Over southern California, smaller and very thin plumes of blowing dust were mostly drifting in a northeast fashion into southern Nevada and towards western Arizona.
