DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z September 26, 2010

Dust/Sand:
Oregon:
Strong Swly flow is resuspending sand/dust/salt particles from dry
lakebeds and surrounding loose soil and desert-like areas across
south central Oregon.  Moderately dense sand/dust/salt plumes can be
seen extending NE about 75km from Summer Lake in Western Lake county.
The small lakebed of Coleman Lake in SE Lake county (near the NV state
line) had thin to moderate dust/sand kicked up starting at 21Z until
2230Z being blown NE as well and is currently crossing into central
Harney county.

No significant areas of detached smoke observed in satellite imagery
through 26/0015Z.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT WILL CONTINUE TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE
WHICH HAVE BECOME DETACHED FROM AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE
SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. IT WILL ALSO
STILL INCLUDE DESCRIPTIONS OF BLOWING DUST.

Unless otherwise indicated:

Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
