DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z October 6, 2010
Central/Northern Plains: A broken area of unknown aerosols and remnant light smoke stretched from the central Plains states northeast towards northwest Minnesota, southern Manitoba and southwestern Ontario. The most concentrated area of smoke was over eastern South Dakota and stretching northeast into south central Canada. The most likely source for this area was the fires over the last several days over Montana and Idaho. Southern Texas: An area of what is believed to be thin smoke was seen moving westward across south Texas this evening. The source region for this area of smoke was likely the large number of agricultural fires that have occurred over the lower Mississippi Valley the last several days. Hanna THE FORMAT OF THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS BEING MODIFIED. IT WILL NO LONGER DESCRIBE THE VARIOUS PLUMES THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES. IT WILL ALSO STILL INCLUDE DESCRIPTIONS OF BLOWING DUST. ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THESE CHANGES OR THE SMOKE TEXT PRODUCT IN GENERAL SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
