DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0202Z March 15, 2011

Southeast Atlantic Coast to Mid-Atlantic Coast:
The area of light smoke that was observed in this morning's satellite
imagery was still somewhat visible on this evening's satellite imagery
from coastal Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina east/northeast
into the Atlantic Ocean although high cloud cover from system over the
Mid Mississippi Valley made it much more difficult to detect this evening.
This area of smoke is believed to be from mostly agricultural fires over
the southeast and central plains the past couple days.

SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. IT WILL ALSO
STILL INCLUDE DESCRIPTIONS OF BLOWING DUST. THE SMOKE TEXT PRODUCT IN
GENERAL SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov

Unless otherwise indicated:

Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
