THROUGH 0245Z September 2, 2011
Central US: An expansive area of smoke is observed this evening over much of the central US including the Northern Rockies, Central plains and the Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys. The likely origin of this area of smoke includes large wildfires in Oregon/Montana/Idaho, large wildfires in Texas/Oklahoma, and numerous fires over the lower Mississippi River Valley. Eastern Great Lakes and Northern Mid-Atlantic: An unknown area of aerosol was located over the eastern Great Lakes States and extending south into portions of the northern Mid-Atlantic. The source for this region is unknown although it's possible that it contained some remnant smoke from the wildfires over the northern Rockies.
