DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z September 3, 2011
Central US: A large area of light to moderately dense remnant smoke is located over the central and eastern portion of the US. The smoke is moving northeast originating near the Oklahoma/Texas border, continuing through Kansas, Missouri, southern Iowa, northern Illinois, northern Indiana and into southern Michigan where is becomes obscured by clouds. This remnant smoke is likely from agricultural burns in the Lower Mississippi Valley and the 63rd Street Fire in Oklahoma. The 63rd Street Fire continues to emit moderately dense to dense smoke which is moving to the north into central Kansas. Northeast: Numerous fires throughout Oregon, Idaho, Montana and northwestern Wyoming continue to produce moderately to dense smoke. The smoke in Oregon is moving to the south while smoke in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming is moving east. California: Smoke from a fire in southwestern San Bernardino is moving northeast nearly reaching the Nevada border. Nevada: A fire in north-central Clark County is emitting smoke that is moving to the east and entering into southern Utah and northern New Mexico. Earlier: Florida/Georgia: Small pockets of moderately dense smoke were visible this morning in Ware County, GA and Union County, FL. Wildfires in the area continued to produced smoke throughout the overnight hours. Central Plains/Mississippi River Valley: A broad area of remnant smoke was observed over much of Kansas/Oklahoma/Missouri and Illinois this morning. A large wildfire in Kiowa County, Oklahoma continues to produce moderate to dense smoke which moved northward throughout the overnight hours. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
