DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0045Z November 30, 2011
Eastern Texas/Louisiana: Numerous fires were analyzed during the day across central and eastern Texas and a good portion of Louisiana. Smoke plumes were visible with a few of these fires, particularly across southeastern Texas and southwestern and southern Louisiana. A number of the smoke plumes moved in a southeasterly direction and well off the coast over the Gulf of Mexico. The fire that has been burning over the past few days in extreme southwestern Louisiana near the Texas border was responsible for a smoke plume which extended nearly 500 miles off the coast over the north central Gulf of Mexico. North Central US: A large number of seasonal fires were detected again today especially over southeastern North Dakota, western and southwestern Minnesota, eastern South Dakota, and northwestern Iowa, although very little smoke was seen in satellite imagery in this region.
