US: Earlier Today The majority of the central US is covered by light to heavy density smoke. This source of this massive area of smoke is likely the wildfires in northern Mexico, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. The smoke extends from Colorado and New Mexico east across the Mississippi River where the full extent is difficult to discern with the current sun angle. It appears to at a minimum reach Ohio, south through eastern Kentucky/Tennessee and Alabama. The heaviest density smoke is over Nebraska and southern South Dakota. Currently: Smoke has moved into the Northeast/Mid Atlantic region and off the coast from New Hampshire to Delaware/NJ. The smoke located in the southern Mississippi Valley has moved a little farther east into eastern Tennessee and central Alabama. Numerous heavy pockets of smoke stretch across sections of eastern New Mexico, eastern Colorado, western Nebraska/Kansas and across both the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle. These pockets are moving ENE-NE. Canada/Alaska: Earlier Today: A large area of light to heavy density smoke extends from north of Alaska east through the Yukon/Northwest Territories/Nunavut and Hudson Bay. This smoke also extends south into northern British Columbia/Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba. This smoke is being produced by wildfires throughout Alaska and northern Manitoba. Currently: Smoke has moved a little far east across sections of eastern Ontario and western Quebec. The pockets of heavier smoke have gotten larger and now stretch across northern Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and into the Hudson Bay. The wildfires in western Quebec continue to produce areas of moderately dense to dense smoke combining with the overall large area of smoke moving east into Quebec. -Salemi/J Kibler THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
