THROUGH 0130Z July 24, 2013
Central US: A large area of thin smoke from numerous fires across ID, N WY, and W MT continue to be seen covering all of N WY, SW SD and nearly all of Nebraska. Embedded within this thin area is a moderately dense to dense pocket of smoke directly from the large fire in extreme N Lewis and Clark county along the Teton county line... this area covers a few miles north of the MT boarder in Powder River and Carter counties, all of Crook county, WY and over SW SD (Black Hills, Badlands, out to around Pierre and Rosebud Indian Reservation). These areas are moving SE and will likely cover KS and W MO later tonight. S Labrador Sea/North Atlantic: Moderately dense smoke can be seen in a wide crescent shape across the N Atlantic, NE of Newfoundland between 49-55N and 45-50W... this smoke was emitted from the large fire complexes in far E Quebec south of the Labrador province line. Elsewhere: A remarkably cloudy day across Canada and the US obscures much more thin and moderately dense smoke that was seen earlier today. Also, new smoke is being emitted can be seen at the graphic/GIS sites below.
