DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0141Z October 6, 2013
SMOKE: No areas of remnant smoke were observed in satellite imagery this morning and early afternoon. DUST: This Evening: California/Northwest Mexico: A large area of blowing/elevated dust was visible from the deserts of southern California and northwest Mexico and drifting westward across the eastern Pacific. This evening, some of the blowing dust was beginning to wrap back to the north along the California coast and may eventually work its way back into Oregon. Strong Santa Ana winds and dry conditions continue this blowing dust event. Kansas/Oklahoma: A faint area of blowing dust was detected across Kansas/Oklahoma. This blowing dust is moving eastward behind the surface cold frontal boundary. From Earlier this Afternoon: Mid-Atlantic Coast: An area of unknown aerosol could be seen stretching east and slightly northeastward away from the Mid-Atlantic coastline. This aerosol was positioned just to the south of a slow moving frontal boundary that was hanging across eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey this morning. -Vogt/Sheffler THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.
