California: Moderately dense smoke from a wildfire in the San Gabriel Mountains east of Los Angeles spread to the southwest across Los Angeles and offshore over the Pacific during the day. South Central and Southeast: Numerous fires and smoke plumes were detected across the region from southeastern Texas to South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Please refer to the graphic links below for details on these smoke plumes. Blowing Dust over the Central Plains: An area of blowing dust originating from many source points over western Nebraska and western Kansas moved to the south and southeast during the afternoon reaching the northwestern Texas and western Oklahoma panhandles as well as a good portion of western and central Kansas and northern Oklahoma. Cloudiness interfered with a precise determination of the extent of the dust and its density.
