DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z April 12, 2014
SMOKE Central/Southern Plains: A broad area of light remnant smoke from the large number of agricultural/prescribe burns in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa yesterday was seen this morning over the area. The smoke had generally lifted to the northeast and extended from eastern Kansas and southeast Nebraska across Iowa and northern Missouri into northern Illinois. The full extent of the smoke was difficult to determine due to the presence of substantial cloudiness over the region. Mid Atlantic Coast: An area of light density remnant smoke from fires in the southeast US the past few days was observed from northeast North Carolina and southeast Virginia extending to the east into the Atlantic. Alabama: An area of light remnant smoke was detected over central and northwest Alabama and was moving to the northwest. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
