Eastern Gulf of Mexico into the Atlantic: An elongated area of light density remnant smoke was seen from the northeast Gulf of Mexico across central Florida and into into the Atlantic. There is likely also a contribution of sulfates in this area. Arizona: The Slide wilfdire near Flagstaff continued to burn today and was producing a plume of light to moderate density smoke that was curling to the north and northwest over northwest Arizona. Extensive clouds in the vicinity of the fire prohibited a detailed analysis of the extent of the smoke. Alaska: A large amount of smoke from the Funny River fire near Soldotna on the Kenai peninsula was seen over the northern Gulf of Alaska. The smoke was light to moderate density. In the most recent imagery the smoke has begun drifting to the north toward Anchorage. The smoke near the fire was heavy density. A separate area of light density smoke from large fires in eastern Siberia several days ago was seen over central and southwest Alaska along the north and west side of the Alaska Range and into the northeast Aleutians. Ruminski/Heeps THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
