DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1730Z June 08, 2014

SMOKE:
Western U.S.
An expansive area of light-moderate density smoke is observed extending
through Oregon to the south and southeast into northern California,
northern and central Nevada and western Utah, south of Great Salt
Lake. This large plume originates from the Two Bulls wildfire located
in Oregon. Most of the plume is light-density smoke, with a small area
of moderate-density smoke extending north of the fire.

Northern Mexico/Arizona:
Two small plumes of light-density smoke are ranging northward to the
Mexico/Arizona border. These plumes originate from fires burning in
northern Sonora.

Florida:
A small area of light-moderate density smoke is extending southward to
the south of Lake Okeechobee. This smoke is stretching from fires that
have been burning over the previous day.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS
OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME
DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE
FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST
ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF
THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO
THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
