DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z June 10, 2014
BLOWING DUST: Southern California: Two areas of blowing dust is seen in southern California. One area of dust is originating in northern Baja California, extending northward over the Salton Sea. Another area of dust is seen originating just to the north of Bakersfield and ranging eastward. SMOKE: Baja California/Arizona: A light to moderately dense smoke plume is seen moving northeastward through northern Baja California, northwestern Sonora and along the border of Mexico and southwestern Arizona. Thin smoke is extending near the Mexico/U.S. Border, and moderate density smoke remains back over Baja California. Idaho/Wyoming: Light density smoke is extending eastward through central Idaho and into western Wyoming. Moderate density smoke is also visible ranging just eastward of the fire. Northwest Territories: An expansive area of smoke is seen extending from a fire southwest of Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories. Light density smoke is moving through the Northwest Territories into northern Alberta, moderate density smoke is extending to the southeast of the fire near the Northwest Territories/Alberta border, and heavy density smoke remains close to the original wildfire over the southern Northwest Territories. AEROSOLS: Central/North-Central U.S: A large area of unknown aerosols remains over much of central and north-central U.S. The extent of this area is generally from southern Minnesota and eastern South Dakota to the south into northeastern Texas. Heeps THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
