THROUGH 0215Z October 14, 2015
SMOKE: Gulf of Mexico/Southeastern US: A large plume of light density aerosol which likely contains some remnant smoke continues to be seen stretching from southeastern Texas across the northern Gulf of Mexico and inland over the adjacent Gulf coast states to along and off the coast of Georgia and the Carolinas. This smoke mixed in with other aerosols in this region is likely left over from the numerous agricultural burns that have been active in the Mississippi River Valley region these last few days. Middle to Lower Mississippi Valley: Another day of significant agricultural/seasonal burning continued over southeastern Missouri, eastern Arkansas, northwestern Mississippi, and northeastern Louisiana resulting in a tremendous number of individual smoke plumes which moved mainly to the east and southeast during the afternoon congealing into a few larger patches of thin density smoke. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
