DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Southeastern US... Numerous seasonal fires were analyzed across a long swath stretching from southern Mississippi eastward over the southern half of Alabama, much of Georgia, Florida, and the southern and eastern portions of the Carolinas. A number of these fires also were producing visible thin density smoke in satellite imagery though some cloudiness did hinder additional smoke detection. A bit farther to the north and west, significant cloudiness in the area from northeastern Texas and eastern Oklahoma eastward to the southern and central Appalachians greatly limited fire and smoke detection in satellite imagery. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
